Some clinics in Turkey use blades made of glass that they call ‘sapphire blades’ in doing recipient site incisions. Sapphire blades are produced in a few different sizes and a fixed depth. However, follicular unit grafts are very variable in size and depth and sapphire blades do not allow for making the proper sized incisions in every patient.
We prefer using ‘platinum blades’ to do recipient site incisions. Platinum blades are custom-made blades prepared during the surgery while measuring the size of each patients grafts. Platinum blades allow for making incisions at the exact width and depth of each patients grafts.
